Getting to know John and his family

John was born and raised in a loving and stable Christian home in Scotland. He trusted in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a Christian youth camp when he was 12 years old. John is married to Gudny, who is from the Faroe Islands, Denmark. She and John met when Gudny came to Scotland on a missions trip. They have a son, Christopher, who is married to Jessica, and three grandchildren, Alex, Ian, and Kera.

Pastor Munro’s education and background

Desiring to pursue a career in law, John completed a four-year honors degree in law at Edinburgh University, Scotland. He then practiced law in Scotland as a criminal prosecutor in Edinburgh. Later he was a partner in a private law firm where he headed the litigation department.

In the middle of a fulfilling and successful career in law, God called John to full-time pastoral ministry. After resigning from his law practice in Scotland, John and Gudny moved to Dallas so John could attend Dallas Theological Seminary. He was granted the degree of Master of Theology with highest honor in 1985. In 1993, John received the degree of Doctor of Ministry from Dallas Theological Seminary. His dissertation was in the area of Pastoral Leadership.

Ministry history

John has served in pastoral ministry for over 30 years; formerly in the role of Senior Pastor in churches in Kalamazoo, MI; Pittsburgh, PA; and Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has been Senior Pastor at Calvary Church since February 2006.
