What is your top priority in life? Your happiness? Your family? Money? Success? Popularity?

Is serving Jesus Christ and obeying His Word truly your top priority?

As we begin a new year, it’s time to strip away our pseudo-spirituality, our outward piety, our rationalizations, our compromises, and our mediocre cultural Christianity.

It’s easy to follow Christ as long as it’s convenient. But in Romans 12:1, the apostle Paul presents a clear and specific challenge to those who follow Christ: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

A true understanding of God’s grace leaves us overwhelmed at the goodness of God. Despite our sinfulness, our great and loving God made a way of salvation through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. For those who accept Him as personal Savior, we are eternally united with Christ, and we have the transforming hope that comes from knowing that nothing is able to separate us from the love of God.

So what is our response?

How could it be anything other than worship, love, trust, obedience and total commitment? — Not because of any legalistic requirement or false guilt or psychological trickery, but simply an understanding of and grateful response to all that God has done for us.

However total commitment is no trivial matter. It’s the challenge and pursuit of a lifetime!

Think of it: To obey God in every area of our life, to truly live for Him, to present our bodies and all of our abilities to Him for His purposes. This is what Paul means by a living and holy sacrifice.

In this new year of 2019, will you accept the challenge of total commitment?
