Nowhere in the Bible is money condemned. Both the New Testament and the Old Testament encourage us to work hard and to be productive so we can provide for our families and have resources to help those in need.
When we pursue and accumulate money and possessions simply for ourselves, it is the motivation, the greed, the covetousness, the desire to control our own lives, and the desire to live independently of God that is so serious.
We must always remember that we are not owners of our resources, but we are stewards. We are accountable to the Lord and answerable to the Lord as to how we use our resources.
